Modul-aah

Not done a post for almost a year, have to admit it's been too easy to be far too lazy. had a spare 30 mins going....

Thought I'd stick some words down on a new Pretty Green collection just released, a new 'Modular' capsule. There's been a lot of new releases in the past few weeks over at PG, lots of new paisley, winter kit and a new Black Label collection. But for me it's the utilitarian styling of this new Modular gear that has caught my eye. it's a range that sits well in PG's history for me, drawing on the military influences whilst being mindful of the looks of today.

5 pieces in the range, across 4 styles. All very much military influenced in terms of design and colour options. All very much centred around Outerwear, which is where is Pretty Green do a lot of their best work.

For me the name of the range is slightly misleading, I'd expect something titled modular to be a range of items that could be used together. Zip in/out linings, outer-shells, etc. I suspect where we're going with this is likely the more infamous styling of layering. And fair enough, that works. Seems to be a big thing again, lots of evidence of it kicking about these days, even seeing quilted items layered on top of each other. Man that must be hot to wear!

So we get a cool take on the traditional Parka, with some added Winter warmth. A quilted jacket, likely the most traditional items to wear as layering, looking decent under denim, cord and larger outerwear, A very nice gilet, a piece very much coming back to the fore in recent years. And all rounded off with a pair of smart Overhead jackets.

We get a nice PG favourite of iridescent fabric used throughout, quilting or wadding across most pieces, storm cuffs on the Parka and so on. A couple of design misses, or maybe just not evident on the product images. An internal draw cord at waist height on the Parka would have been good, as would a draw cord or toggle on the gilet hood. Just personal preferences.

Other than the gilet these all look to be fairly traditional styles from PG, designs we've seen previously all given a new twist. Together they look pretty cool as range, it could easily be expanded to include decent knitwear, henley's, cargo bottoms, etc. Be nice if this was the start of an on-going collection.

For me the Overhead and Gilet are the pick of the pieces, they are the styles I wear today and think PG have done a really good here.

I'll touch on pricing, as it's been mentioned a few times on posts now. Yep we're definitely seeing an increase in prices. This seems to be across so many brands now, and I think I see (or feel) it more sharply on Outerwear. Sadly the world we live in where a tub of butter can cost £10 has led to these inevitable rises. Personally.....I'd say the pricing is maybe in the region of around £30 too steep on the pieces, but that's just personal opinion. I'd still pay for the pieces I like.

What do you folks think of this new range?
