Soldier On

PG updated their AW17 Green Label line last week with a rather massive drop. It has a very obvious militaristic feel to it, I've also seen mention of the Aldermaston Marches from the 50's and 60's. These marches were in protest of Nuclear weaponry, a peace image that would fit well into PG's Peace & Love mantra.

Military style is a huge influencer in fashion, in particular when it comes to winter wear, the practical styles designed by requirement have always crossed over on to the High Street.

I quite like the military styles myself, so this range certainly appeals. I've picked out a few personal highlights from the new pieces.

Like everyone I do love a nice new piece of Outerwear, this new collection might well be PG's best GL batch for a very long time. There's nothing wrong with the light printed styles that we've become accustomed to, but these new timeless pieces simply smash the rest. For many, this is what PG should be all about, the highest compliment some might say.

The Funnel Neck Jacket caught my eye when it appeared in Japan first, it has its very obvious Military look, but it also has a rather practical look to it. Just one of those styles that has an immediate appeal to it.

A Peacoat is something everyone should own, it's a Winter classic, and should be a staple for us all. PG have taken the classic design, back in its correct colour of Navy, and added some subtle Military detailing. I think the details work on the Navy version better as they tone in far more subtly. PG epaulettes and some stripes on the sleeve are the seasonal add-ons for this one. Other than that it's kept to its historical best.

Colder days mean Knitwear, I've opted for this one based loosely on a cable knit design. It's a classic look given a tie to the theme with the addition of the epaulettes that work well with the look.

Nice to see PG adding more embroidered styles into their t-shirt range, they just look much better than a cheaper printed design. This one wouldn't have looked out of place in the previous White Dove range in truth, but it's a nice addition here. The look is kept low-key with just a small embroidered piece above the pocket.

New for PG is the addition of some Lightweights. Now PG have dallied with adding side pockets to various styles in the past, kind of aping the Cargo bottoms look. I think this design works far better, and is a style I've worn myself in the past. Teamed up with a t-shirt and some smart white leather trainers, effortless.

The infamous PG Chelsea Boot finally dropped, however I've picked out the new leather Desert Boot instead. There isn't too much to say here, they just look excellent. The basic design has been kept the same, we're just treated to a new full leather skin on these. Finally PG footwear we can wear in the UK's wet weather.

And lastly, a scarf, I'm a bit surprised it's taken them so long to drop this style. Obviously has it's collegiate look, or could be argued a naval look. You're not meant to wear a scarf under a Peacoat, but I reckon you'd get away with one of these....
