Like A Bird On The Wire

I do like when brands create heritage styles that tap into sporting history to produce something both new and old. A bit like COPA's take on the early 80's Barcelona shirt as sported by Noel Gallagher recently.

Rapha have always carried these types of pieces into their range, and in this year we got another cracking example. To mark the 50th anniversary of the passing of the British cyclist Tom Simpson.
They've dug into their archives to produce a replica of a shirt worn by Tom at the tour De France. Rapha have stayed true to the cycling jersey designs of the time including many historical nods in the style points throughout.
Despite its quite high price-point these flew out out on release, selling out completely within 24 hours of launch.
Some have come back into stock at Rapha, so if you're a size M, L or XL and don't mind the cost then head over to Rapha to check them out here.

The top follows the usual high standards expected from Rapha, made from a fantastic fine gauge Merino Wool mix and finished off with great detailing. The retro cycling style obviously taps into the Modernist look having been a long time design staple.
Cut is designed for being perched on a bike, but this could easily be worn with jeans, etc. Sizing is usual Rapha, so if you fancy this for down the local cafe you might want to go up one size.
If you fancy reading more about this chap Tom, and it's quite a story, check out the recent book on him 'Bird On The Wire' by Andy McGrath, available at the usual sellers such as amazon, etc. and also direct from Rapha.
