A few weeks back I posted about the Vulpine French Workers Jacket, last week they did a 40% Sale to celebrate their 5th birthday, well that was just too tempting....

Order went in and the jacket arrived this week, and I have to say I am rather impressed with it.
First up, I would say this is more of an Overshirt than jacket, but Vulpine cover that off in their own product description. For those that like to layer this is the piece for you, it will slip in perfect under a nice Peacoat or layer over some Merino knits rather neatly.
I have several other Overshirt styles from various brands, but I reckon this is my favourite one. It really has rather impressed me.
Material is a rip-stop cotton, with added 4-way stretch. As Vulpine create pieces for both on and off the bike that's an important element. In just general wear it helps keep things comfortable. On the bike it will be an outstanding feature.
The rip-stop cotton is a nice weight for the Spring and Summer months, would likely cover off autumn out as well in truth.
As with the usual rip-stop materials you get that cross-hatch design of the stronger threads in the weave.
The cotton has a really nice soft handle to it, makes it very comfortable from that first wear.

Fit is true to size, which is nice for a change these days (although I'm a large shaped chap, so for many I reckon you'd likely size down). This is cut quite straight to provide a standard fit. I find the sleeves spot on, and come with an adjustable button cuff.
Closure is a full button through as opposed to a zip, I find the neck sits lower so you'd have room for a paisley scarf in there.
Style is based on traditional French workwear, it's a design you will have seen countless times before, just not done quite this way. The design hasn't deviated too far away from that heritage look, modernity is only really apparent up close.
Details is kept subtle and practical
Yep, cycling is covered off with some simple and subtle reflective piping inserts at the end of the sleeves, but they blend in rather than stand out on the jacket.
There is an inside pocket hidden out of view, with both a pouch pocket and a zipped pocket together, so you get space and security for the valuable things.

For general looking smart this is a great option, not too many have picked up on Vulpine outside of the cycling space so you won't see many folks wearing these (well, ....for now), a good chance to stand out from the crowd.
For general hopping on the bike to the pub or a family ride this is perfect if you don't want to change into the latest skin tight aero suit. It has the inbuilt comfort you'll need while retaining the necessary sharps when you hop off at the end of the journey.
All in all, this is an absolute belter. If you're planning to sup on some espresso's watching a Monument or strap in for a Peroni bender watching the Giro, this will see you through the journey. If you're taking the Cinelli out for a spin into town, you won't find a better companion.
What to wear with it...I spotted Wiggo sporting some Breton stripes recently and I reckon that would look ideal under this, say a style like this one from Armor-Lux

I reckon it would also likely tie in smart with Pretty Green's Caversham, either the shirt or the scarf over a white t-shirt?
Check it out if you get a chance, only the blue is available in certain sizes at the moment, hopefully they re-stock in the not too distant future.
Peace&Love&Mercy, theSub
