Sunday Sun

It's Sunday, it's a whiteout outside up my way, painfully sat watching Andy Murray in the Australian Open Final so let's do a quick outfit Blog piece while the next cuppa is brewed....

Usual story, a collection of pieces that should do you well down your local hostelry for an afternoon catching-up over a few frothy ones with the occassional glance at the sporting endeavours over on the big screen.

Up top - gone for Pretty Green's very cool new Chambray Tarbet Jacket because...well, it's just very cool. The Navy and Khaki versions of this are both really smart, I just think the Chambray looks a bit more unique, likely more terrace style than Madchester, but cool either way. Loads of pockets to keep all your schmutter in check, hood...ye know...for pulling over your head as you make your way from the pub to the taxi on a rainy night, toggles and all the usual other jacket highlights, such as sleeves and zips. Stand out from the Spring Summer crowd, stick the coins aside and check this one out.....that's what I'm doing

Keeping it warm - because despite everyone telling us it's now Spring/Summer it's still a bit nippy out there and you need to keep it warm, and what better than Pretty Green's new Fernbank Knitted Polo. Kept to a minimal 60's preppy style this just looks the business. Gone for the navy option as the Brewdog spills won't show up as much and it'll look good under the Tarbet. It's a really nice piece this, a decent wool/cotton mix to keep it warm and comfortable and just a really nice style to keep things smart or casual (depending on the watering holes you frequent, this should look good either way).

Layering - now I don't really buy into all this layering malarky, surely just some marketing bollocks to fool us into buying more stuff, no? Let's play along purely for the excuse to show off a nice tee. PG have taken George's hand from Richard Avedon's portrait, plonked it on a tee and then written their name on it. Genius really. A cool PG tee with that essential nod to the coolest of The Beatles.

*okay, they've done a little more than plonked George's hand on a tee, but you know what I mean... just go and buy it, it's cool

Strides - that's enough Pretty Green for now I reckon (and because PG won't do Selvedge anymore), so gone for some Paul Smith Italian Selvedge to keep the standing up assistants warm. I love a nice Selvedge jean, I also love a cheap Selvedge as well..but sometimes you have to take it on the chin and spend a bit more. These Paul Smith jeans caught my eye purely through their simplicity, very much the less is more approach. A straight up classic design that ignores any pretentious add-ons. It's a lot of wedge to drop on some denim but these should be a good investment and last a lot of years.

Toe-Warmers - unless you're striding down some toasty foreign Riveria then a nice piece of toe warmth is an essential at the moment. I spotted these Fred Perry beauties last night, and seeing as the colours match the Fernbank I'm having them! I like FP's little rip-off of the Burlington ID-tag on their socks, pretty smart and it's nice to see a little 80's Argyle back. It's a pair of socks, not much more I can say really.

Wheels - it's a lazy one wathcing some sport with friends, trainers are allowed...and it has to be the 3-stripes. I like the re-introduction of the Jeans style, the weather is still grotty so I've gone for the recently released 'black' version over the slightly cooler 'chalk' simply as a practical choice. I don't really like mixing black with navy, but I reckon the cool cats would allow this one.

Enjoy your Sunday troops, dress smart and have a good one, theSub
